It is a great honour for me to serve as the founding Chair of INSTA, an IAEA-supported regional training network. Nuclear science and technology (NST), with its wide range of applications in energy, medicine and health, environment, agriculture, and various industrial sectors, will require a large number of skilled manpower in the coming decades. INSTA exists precisely to meet this critical need.
INSTA will provide a collaborative ecosystem that nurtures the next generation of nuclear professionals. Unlike other networks that primarily focus on students, INSTA is strategically designed to complement and synergize with existing initiatives by dedicating its efforts to supporting NST educators. These educators are the linchpin of the workforce development system, playing a pivotal role in shaping the knowledge, skills, and competencies of future nuclear scientists and technicians. By enhancing the capabilities of educators, we can ensure a more profound and lasting impact on nuclear education and talent cultivation.
As the adage goes, "Talent is the first productive power." Recognizing this, INSTA aims to build a vibrant community where NST educators can exchange innovative teaching methods, share best practices, and access cutting-edge resources. Through workshops, seminars, and online platforms, we will facilitate continuous professional development, enabling educators to stay abreast of the latest advancements in nuclear science and teaching methodologies. This investment in educator capacity will not only improve the quality of education but also foster a pipeline of highly skilled and motivated nuclear professionals who can drive progress and innovation in the field.
